Born in Brisbane in 1955, Lew has been painting and drawing since early childhood.

Described as a ‘natural’, he first received awards and began selling his work in his early teens.

Lew has painted professionally all his life and his work is keenly sought after by collectors throughout Australia and overseas for its brilliant realism combined with a sensitivity of composition and empathy for his subjects.

Commited to oils, charcoals, pencils and watercolours, working somewhere between realism and the deeper interpretations of surrealism. Influenced by the painting styles and techniques of Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper and Jeffrey Smart, Brennan’s work is much admired for the virtuosity of his draughtsmanship and sensitivity to his subject. A well recognised portrait artist, Brennan regularly undertakes portrait commissions. Currently working on a series of paintings to record contemporary life in the threatened rural environment of regional Australia. These works make a subtle social commentary on small town life. He lives and works on his rural property near the township of Cooran on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
